I just saw a trailer that made me throw up a little bit. It is for a movie about the freaking Tooth Fairy. This is the classic crappy movie cookie cutter. Have some dude who is ultra manly, a hockey player in this case, get some unlikely mystical career that he bumbles through but ends up developing a knack for. In the end everyone’s lives are enriched. I puke. The end. What makes me sad is that this is where Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has taken his acting career. This guy did some awesome action movies, but also had a talent for comedy. He played a gay body guard opposite Vince Vaughn and John Travolta in Be Cool. That is something to build on!!! He then did a dramatic role in Gridiron Gang. An awesome movie! That should have surely lead to more chances at doing serious roles. WTF is he doing? Here is a little sample of his movie progression. The last one will make you gag.
It is December so I figure ’tis the season to start talking about Christmas. I wont get into talking about shopping or decorations or any of that crap. I want to get straight to the entertainment. I have posted this list before, but I was reminded of it recently. I watched Love Actually on Monday night and it got me thinking of all the Christmas specials I make sure to see at this time of year. You may see a lot of other articles on the net about this in the coming days. But, my list has one huge difference: it’s from me. My opinion on everything is clearly far superior. You will see listed here some of the movies and specials that don’t get mentioned anywhere else. Just follow my list and enjoy a Christmas filled with awesomeness!
Best Animated Christmas Specials:
Bugs Bunny’s Christmas Carol - This is a great, albeit short, version of the classic. You have Yosemite Sam playing the Scrooge…how can you go wrong?!
Mickey’s Christmas Carol - Although this is animated, it is very true to the original tale. It even gets pretty sad when Scrooge McDuck is spending time with the Ghost of Christmas Future. All the usual characters from the cartoons make appearances.
Garfield’s Christmas - This is a surprising pick, I know. It has everything you need wrapped into an entertaining half hour. The fat orange cat even manages to show some Christmas spirit without losing his personality.
Futurama Christmas Episodes - I know, the list just got a little weird. But, if you happen to be a cartoon loving geek then this is for you. In the future, Santa is a robot with a programming malfunction that forces him to judge everyone naughty…and try to kill them. It makes for an interesting Christmas. This is great for those who both love and hate this time of year!
Best Non-Animated Christmas Specials:
A Christmas Story - You had to know this was making the list! Every guy can think back to when he was young and all he really wanted for Christmas was a weapon? This is a great story, done with a retro look. It’s almost like watching “The Wonder Years” but not as stupid.
Elf - Any movie that stars Will Ferrell is great any time of the year, including the holidays. But you have something truly special when Ferrell stars as an human raised by elves and set loose in New York. It has all the sentiment of Christmas with all the fun of Will Ferrel, a perfect combination.
Love Actually - Stop laughing you heartless jack-asses! This is an awesome movie, especially around Christmas. A series of intertwined characters and mini stories that all come together around Christmas time. This is perfect! Guys can win some extra points by watching this with your girl….just don’t let her see you cry.
The Family Man - This is another movie that doubles as a chick-flick. But, this is a great holiday story for everyone. Nicolas Cage stars as a rich ass who gets the chance to look back on how life could have been. It all happens around Christmas time and makes you feel good…then sad…then good again.
That is the end of the list. Of course there may be some I didn’t list. Feel free to watch them, although I will not be held responsible if their lack of awesomeness ruins your Christmas. Why didn’t I include Rudolph? Because he sucks, that’s why! That whiny little red nosed twit should have been shot and eaten by Santa.

I have a thing about watching TV shows. I don’t do it. I wait for the previous season to be released on DVD and then catch up all at once. This is how I handled catching up on 6 seasons of LOST all in one month (thanks LD). I finally broke my rule at the strong urging of my friend Nik. He knows how much I love the show How I Met Your Mother - Particularly NPH’s role as Barney Stinson. I have posted about Barney’s crib and Barney’s best pickup line. This new clip replaces that best pickup line. In this episode, we learn all about the various pickup tricks Barney uses from his playbook. This is by far the coolest pickup method ever! I feel like this is something I have the technical skills to pull off. Hmmmmm. While I work on that, enjoy the clip.

Watching season 4 of How I Met Your Mother has me thinking about the wisdom that the Barney Stinson character lays on us. NPH is amazing! In this classic scene we have Barney showing us what is, quite possibly, the best pick up line ever. I haven’t ever used this line or seen is used, but my god it is glorious. Enjoy!
In my random internet stumblings I found How It Should Have Ended. All I can say is that this is just awesome. Here are a couple of samples. Check it out.
There has been a wicked trend in advertising lately. I call it: Man-vertising. Ads focused solely on men. Theses ads are usually simple and fun. They either have boobs, funny shit or just someone saying how awesome being a dude really is. Back in the day, Man-vertising was just used for beer commercials. Thankfully, it has spread out to other products and services. I certainly hope this is something we can expect to see more of. Check out these 3 examples:

Video games have moved from being toys to being legitimate media products for the masses. One of the best ways this is proven is by the way in which video games are advertised. Back in the day (think NES) you would only find ads in comics or magazines devoted to video games. You would only see television ads during children’s programming. Today you find print, web and television ads splattered everywhere and at all times. Some of the ads are pretty dramatic. The reason for posting this is that I recently saw the ad for Halo 3: ODST. Pretty freakin’ cool. It got me thinking about how seriously they take this stuff. Check out the examples of both old and modern video game ads.

It’s time for more awesomeness from Barney Stinson. A short while back I posted about the Crazy/Hot Scale. Here we get a little more personal. We get a rare peak into Barney’s crib. This man is a genius. No more setup is needed. Once again - learn it, know it, love it!

I might as well continue with the slightly depressing tone this blog has taken over the last little while. Here is a song called “Sometime around midnight” by Airborne Toxic Event. This song is just fucking sad. Sad in a good way. It’s an amazing song, it just sounds painful! It is depressingly good in the way that REM used to be way back in the day. Ahh, many nights I spent stewing in my teenage angst while listening to REM. If you are sad and dealing with a broken heart you really should avoid listening to this song. It might push you over the edge. Everyone else, please enjoy. Although, it may take you back to some sad memories.

I was at a friends place the other day watching episodes of How I Met Your Mother and it really got me thinking about how awesome the Barney Stinson character is. He balances out the other pussies on the show who spend the whole time whining about not being married. Barney (played by N.P.H.!) is all about having sex with as many women as possible and being awesome. He also has come up with what pretty much equals a bible for guys: The Bro Code. There is actually a published version so I suggest you run to a book store or hook up some Amazon action and get this thing delivered to your ass. I figure I should post some random moments of awesomeness that Barney has brought us. Today’s post: the crazy/hot scale. Watch it. Learn it. Know it. Love it!
