Oh no doubt. Carbo was just noting that a perfect scenario of a devasting legal headhost pops up for everyone ..even for the great on ice visionaires like Sakic and Crosby.

It is such a tricky slope to traverse when trying to create ruls with this. Well maybe its time to mandate better mouth guards, more coverage on the helment (even though that may have an opposite effect, more cuhioned pads.

Hey did gyou hear the proposed rule change by gainey by maiking it a penalty to dive in front of the puck to block a shot? The rule change would help create more scoring and reduce injuries but the odd part about is, it comes from a guy and his staff that were amongst the elite in blocking shots...Go figure? I am oppsed to it but an interesting story none the less.

oh and by the way 7-1-1. GO HABS GO!

One thing the league would have to consider is the players getting too smart. You see it now all the time that a guy will quickly turn his back to someone because he knows he isn't allowed to be hit. We would be possibly opening the gate to players quickly dropping their heads so that they can draw a penalty on what would have been a clean hit. We also increase the chance of serious knee injuries. I know that if a player who is planning a hit quickly has to change directions, there is a good chance he is going to end up knee on knee with the guy he is trying to avoid. Not good. Tough to say how this will all end up. As for Carbonneau's comments: we have been taught since 10 years old to keep your damn head up if you are near the puck. Yes, you can look down every once in a while. But if you are about to make a play on the puck your ass better know where everyone is. All hockey players know this. Even he knew it when he played.

" I don't know if you guys play hockey," Carbonneau told reporters in Montreal, "but it's really hard to play hockey without putting your head down at one point -- because the puck is usually on the ice"

It would be difficult to say full contact without the head shots because we are talking about split second decisions at blistering speeds.

What I do want to see is suspensions being assessed when hits are on people in vunerable positions (backs turned, not head down) (and not those ones who would turn their back on purpose to avoid the check). Look at what happend to Bergeron. Racing for the icing and having his head run into the boards. Andrew Ference on his knees from a fall getting his has smashed against where the board meet the glass. Any Ryan Hollweg check.

I agree that players must protect themselvs for the contact but in those two scenarios, the hitter could of reacted differently. But for the love of god, do not take away hitting.

I did like the idea that was thrown around to put an extra layer of padding on the outside of the shoulder pad to reduce those impacts. COntry was all for it as long as it does not hinder his movement.
