Leif Olson Hole In One

This is just incredible!  I mean, it may not be as amazing as when Johal and drank too much and almost rolled a golf cart.  But if you like to see sports highlights that…well…actually have to do with sports then this one is for you.  Hole in ones are rare things and deserved to be celebrated.  This one was a little extra special because Leif Olson didn’t take the direct route.  He called a combo on this one!

Drunk Golf From The Past

As I mentioned in my last post about drinking and golfing, this wasn’t the first time I teed off of a beer can.  I did the trick a year or two ago as well.  My form was much worse than this last video, but the drive actually worked out a lot better.  I hit that one dead center of the fairway.  I also managed to sink a putt while drinking a beer.  This putt wasn’t a gimme either, it was a 6 footer!  Another thing I noticed is that I seem to wear the same outfit golfing no matter when or where I am out!  I think it’s time I picked up a new shirt.  It is also pretty clear that I don’t age.  I didn’t take any videos of that adventure from the past, but I did snag some good photos.  Here they are.

*The best tee ever…empty, of course

*The setup for this is tough… after chugging the beer to make the tee

*An ugly follow-through, but the can is still upright!

*I needed to sink a 6 footer…but I also needed a sip of beer.  Why not do both?!

Drinking & Golfing

I mentioned yesterday that I had a messy round of golf with Johal on the weekend.  We decided to hit up Hockley Valley once again.  The course kicked our asses.  Maybe it had something to do with the massive amount of beer we drank.  Maybe it was…wait…no…it was the beer!  I threw together a quick little video of our day on the course.  There are gaps in the video that match up with the gaps in my memory.  Isn’t golfing the best?!

Ramblings - June 15, 2009

Another crazy weekend!  I managed to continue my trend of doing really awesome things…and forgetting my camera!  I got to play golf at a private course on Saturday.  Normally, places like that keep hooligans like me and my friends out by making it expensive to be a member.  Lucky for us one of our friends, Nik, is a member and he took us out there for his birthday.  The course was Caledon Woods just north of Toronto.  My foursome played 2 on 2 best ball and we still managed to score pretty high!  Needless to say the course kicked our asses on a few of the holes.  Below is a shot from a friends iPhone.  This is an awesome action shot of me driving the ball.  Since you can’t see where I hit the ball I will just tell you I drove it further than Tiger Woods can.  We managed to drown our sorrows in some expensive beers!  After that we continued the drinking at Nik’s place.  I got to bed somewhere around 4am or so.  Long night!  I spent Sunday in bed right up until hockey in the evening.  We kicked the living crap out of that team 11-1.  I actually managed to contribute with 3 points.  One thing I did to help break out of my slump was go back to an old stick.  This was a stick I used about 4 years ago and it got me plenty of goals back then.  More than anything I think the height of that stick is perfect for me.  I am probably going to cut my other sticks down to that height and hopefully I can get on some kind of a roll here.  Speaking of hockey, the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup on Friday.  They managed to edge Detroit by a goal in game 7.  It was a tense third period with Detroit missing the tying goal by an inch when Kronwall hit the crossbar.  It is actually pretty funny.  Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury gives the crossbar some love after it saved his ass.  Check out the video!

*Here is the shot of me teeing off on a Par 4.  This pic doesn’t do justice to how horrible my swing actually is.

Golfing At Hockley Valley Resort

We FINALLY had some good weather this week and as a result, my blogging was almost non-existent.  I am sorry about that.  I do have a great excuse though - I was golfing!  I finally got the clubs out this week and proved that I really am not a great golfer.  That’s OK, I always have fun (fun = get drunk).  The first round of the year was at Humber Valley in Toronto which was just a glorified practice round.  We played 9 holes at twilight.  Hockley Valley Resort in Orangeville, Ontario was the real deal.  Johal was able to hook us up with an amazing deal so it was a no brainer.  Under $50 for greens fees and that included the cart.  We were also lucky that we were playing after a shotgun start tournament finished up.  The course was empty and groups started to line up at the first tee.  The starter was nice enough to let Johal and I run up to the third hole and start from there.  That meant we never had to wait to tee off!  Any golfer knows what an absolute dream that is.  The weather was perfect and the course was challenging.  You spend the first 10-11 holes going up hill and then you spend the rest going back down.  It really makes club selection on the par 3’s tough because 150 yards can play like 180 going up and 120 going down.  If you hit into the rough just forget your ball.  You aint finding it!  I ran into that problem a few times.  For the most part Johal and I golfed pretty clean.  We did much better than we expected to.  In the end he edged me by one stroke.  The bastard.  This really was a perfect Friday.  We had the sun shining, we were out on a golf course and we had plenty of beer.  I love it when I get the chance to get out of the Toronto area to golf.  It is nice to see nature all around the course instead of roads and buildings.  And, when you golf as wildly as I do, it is safer for me to be out in the woods!  If you get a chance I definitely recommend you check out Hockley Valley Resort for a round of golf.  Here are a couple of the pics from the round.  I really am sorry for the poor quality.  I forgot the camera and had to take these with my blackberry.

Another Tiger Woods Ad

No Forex trading last night.  Things just did not look good.  The EUR/USD have moved down considerably during the day and we were trading near the low.  When I got on in the evening things were just rising from that low.  The candles were large and there was no clear range.  I set some weak barriers to see if things would even out.  They didn’t and my barriers were broken.  So, I walked away.  No point in forcing a trade when there are rough waters!  So, I will show you something from my man Tiger.  I know I have blogged about Tiger Woods before- both the video game and the man.  He just does such cool stuff that I can’t help but pass it on for you.  Check out this latest ad.  Here, he manages to get a square peg into a round hole!

Golfing At Nobleton Lakes

With the temperature getting up to 24 degrees and the sun shining, there was no way I was staying at the office for a full work day.  Johal and I cut out early and met our friend Eddie at Nobleton Lakes Golf Club.  They have a great deal going on right now, where you pay $80 for a round, but you get a voucher for a free round later in the year.  You can’t beat that!  Considering we are so early in the season, the course was in fantastic shape!  It was a little dry in some areas of the rough, but that is to be expected.  The fairways and greens played amazingly though.  It was definitely worth the trip out.  Johal managed to stay out of the water for the most part this time around.  I had my driver dialed in too.  If I can keep that up all year…well…I will still suck, but I will look more impressive!

1st Golf Of 2008

April 13, 2008. It was a sunny Sunday, but probably only around 7-8 degrees outside with the sun starting to set. What better time to get out for the first golf outing of the season? My partner in crime was my buddy Johal. Now, neither of us had time to hit the driving range at all this year. So, we were very rusty. We only played 9 holes at an executive (mostly par 3) course in Toronto. We both had some good shots and managed a couple of pars. Other than that it was pretty much bogey golf. Now for the fun part. Johal, probably being dehydrated from drinking, seemed to be attracted to the water. Even on par 3 holes with the water right in front of us he still managed to get the ball wet. At one point he even took about 4 mulligans and kept knocking it into the water about 5 feet in front of him! I promised to keep his water related disaster a secret. So, naturally I took a some pictures with my camera phone and and writing about this on my blog! Sorry Johal, I couldn’t help it.

The Origin of Golf

It is in these cold times that I long for golf. Hot, endless summer days spent on courses that I shouldn’t be able to afford being on. Until I started playing, I thought golf was stupid. Now, I know that it is absolutely insane. You spend money to go whack a ball around a big lawn with expensive sticks. I always wonder what drunk fool invented this sport. The game’s true origins are foggy, but common belief is that the Scottish created the game in the 1100’s. Robin Williams has the most probable story of this games true beginnings:
